Focus topic at the HSR: Information Security

The HSR University of Applied Sciences Rapperswil focuses on cyber security in education, training and research. In this field there are always points of contact with Compass Security.

Compass Security and the HSR Hochschule für Technik Rapperswil have a long history. The two founders of the company, Ivan Bütler and Walter Sprenger, met more than 25 years ago while studying electrical engineering. This was also the beginning of the business idea with which Compass Security is still successful today.

The connection to the university is close. Compass Security regularly supervises student research projects and bachelor theses. Ivan Bütler has been teaching computer science with a focus on IT security for many years.

Last year the cooperation was intensified. Compass Security has completely modernized its Hacking-Lab teaching platform on behalf of the Swiss Armed Forces. It can now be used in its new cyber security course. The implementation of this project was only possible with the active support of several employees of the INS Institute for Network Solutions, which is based at the HSR.

The CAS ICT Interceptor course is also completely new at the HSR. This course is aimed at investigators of Swiss police corps. Ivan Bütler teaches the basics of IT monitoring. He imparts the necessary theoretical knowledge on topics such as "attacks on the Internet" and introduces the participants to the topic with practical exercises. The course began on 01 April 2019.
